This laboratory was established in collaboration with the Caribbean Council for the Blind and its international partners.  The laboratory provides training for teachers of the visually impaired and other service providers in Jamaica and the region.  Participants are trained in the use of specialized software such as Job Access for Windows (JAWS).

Special Education Units Literacy Competition

This competition is designed to improve literacy performance among students through the use of innovative teaching strategies.  Teachers use themes from the Revised Primary Curriculum (RPC) for Grades one to three as the main source of literacy activities.  The competition encourages the creative use of art and craft, speech, drama and dance as tools to promote reading, writing, listening, speaking, computing and viewing.  Each year the competition culminates with an awards ceremony at which trophies, certificates and prizes are awarded.
