The Ministry follows a regular cycle of educational activities, which hardly deviate from the norm. The following is a basic outline of the Ministry’s educational calendar:

MARCH

• Grade Six Achievement Test (GSAT)

MAY

• Child Month activities
• Grade Three Diagnostic Test
• Grade Four Literacy Test
• Jamaica High School Certificate examinations (for all-age schools)
• Grade Nine Achievement Test (for primary & junior high schools)
• Student admissions for primary schools
• Panelling ends

JUNE-JULY

• Jamaica Schools Certificate (JSC) Examinations
• Secondary Schools Certificate (SSC) Examinations
• Grade 9 Achievement Test

SEPTEMBER

• Grade 1 Inventory Test
• Reopening of Schools
• Launch of school year

OCTOBER

• National Heritage Week celebrations (in conjunction with Division of Culture)
• Panelling begins

NOVEMBER

• Parents’ Month celebrations
